The design followed the tradition of the bonfire used in the celebrations throughout the city where people gather old wood in the streets and light a fire so that people can jump over it.
The color of the flames represent the different colours that each large neighbourhood of the city uses to identify itself in the celebrations parades.
The 2009 design followed previous editions design, more particularly the use of color flames but contextualised the flames in it’s environment, the night, through the use of black in the background. The horizontal color flames also related to the waves and the difficulties fishermen suffer while working at the sea.
